The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation are pleased to announce their support of the CITIZENS for Sanctuary campaign.
A three year grant has been awarded by these organisations to the CITIZEN Organising Foundation to support a project working to implement the Independent Asylum Commission's key recommendations. The project, called CITIZENS for Sanctuary, aims to safeguard the tradition of sanctuary for the next generation.
David Farnsworth from the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund says
‘The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund supports the UK's long tradition of providing sanctuary to people fleeing persecution. We are delighted to be joining with other funders to support the CITIZENS for Sanctuary campaign which will encourage all of us to work together to ensure that people seeking sanctuary in the UK are treated with fairness and humanity.'
Rob Bell from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation says ‘The work of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation is driven by a strong desire to help people overcome injustice and prejudice and to give them an opportunity to play as full a part as possible in the communities in which they live. We hope that with our combined support, the CITIZENS for Sanctuary campaign is able to reinvigorate support for, and confidence in, the provision of sanctuary for those fleeing persecution'.
